Easy Ways To Cut 100 Calories
1.) Chill soups, gravies, and stews, then skim off the fat that floats. Doing this can save you to 100 calories a serving.
2.) Reduce the use of butter and margarine. Use applesause in recipes instead of oil. Try fat-free, butter-flavored spreads or sprinkles (unless you're watching your salt intake). Just eliminating a pat of butter on your morning toast will save you 100 calories.
3.) Switch from 100-plus-calorie sandwich bread to the light whole-wheat bread. You save 100 calories per sandwich, and you get the benefit of good for you whole grains.
4.) Cut back on egg yolks. It's the yolk that contains virtually all the fat and cholesterol. Try using egg substitutes. Or, in most recipes, you can use two egg whites instead of one whole egg.
5.) Switch from regular soda to diet soda and save 150 calories per 12 ounces.
6.) Switch from 100-plus-calorie sandwich bread to the light whole-wheat bread. You save 100 calories per sandwich, and you get the benefit of good-for-you whole grains.
7.) Replace the 1 1/2 ounces of cheddar or American cheese on your sandwich with one ounce of nonfat mozzarella cheese, saving you 100 calories per sandwich.
8.) If you love microwave popcorn, you don't need to give it up. Switch to the "light" kind and cut not only calories, but fat. A normal serving of "light" vs. "regular" microwave popcorn could save you 100 calories.
9.) When you can, switch from whole-milk products to skim-milk products. If you consume three a day, you can save up to 200 calories a day !
10.) When you eat out, ask for a "doggy bag" before you actually eat. Place enough of your order into the doggy-bag so that you take in lower calories and give yourself an extra meal the next day from the doogy-bag contents. This is great training for "proportioning", which is definitely cutting calories.
11.) Use extra-lean ground beef, ground chicken, or ground turkey. Instead of bacon, use Canadian bacon or prosciutto, a lean Italian ham. Trim all fat from meat.
12.) Swap that 20-oz. morning O.J. for a real orange.
13.) Switch to meatless products whenever you can. Imitation hot dogs, bacon, burgers and sausage are available at many grocery stores. With certain preparations, the meatless products just don't work for taste, etc.....but in many preparations you would never know the difference between meatless and the real thing.
14.) Switch from beef to turkey for chili, soup, burger patties, etc.
15.) Stay away from the coffee house cappuccino. Go back to regular coffee with artificial sweetener. This will save you well over 10 pounds a year !
16.) When you have a choice, take the stairs over the elevator.
17.) Don't supersize anything !
18.) Remove the skin from a chicken breast after cooking and save 100 calories each time.
19.) If you must top your ice cream, use fresh fruit in place of candy, crumbled cookies, fudge, etc. You save approximately 100 calories each time you make this choice.
20.) Forego regular salad dressing for fat-free dressing. Each two tablespoons will save you approximately 100 calories.
